RDA Committee
The Federal and State Ministers responsible for regional development appoint the Chairman, Deputy Chair and members to the Committee after an expression of interest process that is advertised widely. In February 2012, a new Chairman and four new Committee members were appointed to complement continuing members. The Committee is made up of 12 members. The Committee is made up of twelve members including a Chairman and Deputy Chair:

Paul joined RDA in 2012. Retiring from local government after serving 12 years as Mayor and Councillor of McKinlay Shire to follow other interests, Paul is a primary producer in north west Queensland.

Lynette (Lyn) McLaughlin
Deputy Chairperson
Lyn joined RDA in 2009. She is a former Mayor and Councillor of Burdekin Shire Council and represents the region on several committees. Lyn is a primary school teacher.

Based in Townsville, Jeff and his wife Debbie own and operate an events management business Access All Areas Event Management. Born in Toowoomba, Jeff has lived in Townsville since 1985.

David was born and raised in Townsville but spent most of his working life in various other locations such as Brisbane, Bundaberg, Cairns, Melbourne and Toowoomba. It is his love for Townsville and its wonderful community and lifestyle that drew David and his family back to Townsville in 2003.
David brings 34 years of experience in Banking, Finance and International Trade, including 3 years in senior management and executive positions in Melbourne. David spent over 3 years as CEO of a leading second tier accounting and financial services company in Queensland and 2 years running his own consulting company providing Corporate and SME advisory services.

Cr Eric (Rick) Britton
Rick was elected to the Boulia Shire Council in 2007 and has served as Mayor since 2008. Rick and his wife Ann also own and operate the cattle station Goodwood Pastoral Company.

Dr Scott Crawford
Scott is the Chief Executive Officer of NQ Dry Tropics, the regional natural resource management body for the Burdekin region.
He has an extensive senior management career in natural resource management, and has worked both in Australia and New Zealand. Much of his focus has been around the use and management of land and water resources in rural and agricultural communities.
Originally from Brisbane, Scott first moved to Townsville in the later 1980's to study at James Cook University. Despite having left twice, Scott continues to be drawn back to Townsville.

Cr Tracy Forshaw
Tracy has been a Councillor on the Burke Shire Council since 2008. Tracy and her husband Ian own and operate an earthmoving, quarry and concrete business in Gregory.

Trevor Goldstone
Trevor is the Director, Business Development and Operations at the faculty of Law, Business and Creative Arts at James Cook University. Trevor moved from Adelaide to Townsville in 2009.

Cr Greg Jones
Greg was elected to the Flinders Shire Council in 1994 and after serving as Deputy Mayor, became Mayor in 2012. Greg and wife Carole operate an Electrical, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning business in Hughenden.

Prof. Sabina Knight
Sabina is a health and academic leader with a career that has spanned clinical practice, public health, research, education advocacy, policy and leadership and an extensive background in remote and rural primary health care, public health and education and community development.
A Remote Area Nurse originally from the north west of NSW, Sabina gained her Master of Tropical Health from the University of Queensland in 1989 and is a fellow of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation. She has a passionate interest in regional development, sustainable agriculture and pastoral sectors. Her clinical and public health career has extensively been in rural and remote health moving from NSW to remote northern South Australia in the Pitjantjatjara Lands and then several remote communities of Central Australia and broader Northern Territory before moving to Queensland.
Sabina has served on numerous national and regional committees and advisory councils and her leadership roles have included the Regional Women's Advisory Committee to Deputy Prime Minister Anderson, the Council of Remote Area Nurses of Australia and the National Rural Health Alliance. A recognised leader in nursing, rural and remote health and education, she came to the leadership role with the Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health from the Centre for Remote Health in Alice Springs.
Sabina's professional interests and activities have primarily focused on sustainable communities and health inequities - remote, isolated, vulnerable populations and health. A 2009 finalist of the NT Australian of the Year and Centenary Medallist, she has also been recognised by the profession and the discipline of remote health. She is a fellow of the Rural Leadership Australia, Fellow of CRANA plus, and of the Royal College of Nursing Australia and a director of the Rural Health Education Foundation.
Her policy expertise has been widely utilised in a range of settings - in 2008 Sabina also served on the Expert Panel on the Social Impacts of Drought and as a Commissioner on the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission and more recently on several technical working groups of the Department of Health and Ageing.

Jeremy Moffat
Jeremy is a passionate advocate for regional Queensland, in particular North Queensland.
Jeremy moved his family from Sydney in 2003 to start up North Queensland Telecom. Throughout his career, Jeremy has pioneered the launch of five new businesses, taking each company from start-up phase, through to establishment, with each business comfortably trading at high profit margins and extended growth.
Since Jeremy moved to Townsville, he has immersed himself in the community through various activities including a voluntary Board appointment at the North Queensland Small Business Development Centre, Rugby Union as a player, coach and Board member of JCU and North Ward Old Boys clubs and competed in triathlons.

Mike Westerman
Mike is a mining engineer with over 20 years of experience across a number of communities. Mike's broad range of experience was gained through Senior Mining roles in the Kalgoorlie goldfields, the Kimberley area of Western Australia, the Northern Territory and North West Queensland. Mike's recent work history includes management of the Ernest Henry Mine in Cloncurry and is currently General Manager of the Mount Isa Copper Operations.
Mike is also active in the Mining Safety & Health Advisory Committee as well as the Board of Examiners for Statutory Certificates of compentency.
Casual Vacancies
RDA Committee members have been appointed for periods of between two and four years. Committees across Australia will have casual vacancies from time to time.
The Australian Government is accepting nominations to fill these casual vacancies from people with the capabilities and expertise to contribute to the development and growth of regional Australia. These nominations will be considered for casual vacancies as they arise.
